WHAT TO EXPECT
Because the MRI exam is noninvasive and uses no radiation, it is safe and does not require any special preparation. You will be asked a variety of questions related to your health, including any surgeries or implants you have had. Leave any excess metal accessories at home (hair clips, jewelry, etc.). Your exam will last be between 30–45 minutes, during which time you will be asked to lie completely relaxed while the images are collected.  Some exams may require an injection of a contrast agent in your arm.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN AN MRI CENTER

Ideally, you want to find a quality center in which you feel comfortable. If you are claustrophobic, or if you just want extra comfort during your exam, request that you be prescribed to an Open-MRI system at Advanced MRI. An Open-MRI system will significantly reduce or eliminate the need for any anti-anxiety medications. Our state-of-the-art, high-field open system out performs other manufacturers’ high-field tunnel systems and all other open systems. It may also be the preferable choice if you have a larger body type.

If you have been prescribed an MRI, you have the right to choose where you have this exam, much like you choose which pharmacy will fill your drug prescription.

Next, it is a good idea to check the credentials of the MRI facility. For example, are the radiologists board-certified and do any of them have advanced fellowship training? Only Advanced MRI has MRI specialty radiologists that are all fellowship trained, and all of our MRI technologists are MRI certified.

When it comes to scheduling an MRI, you should be able to get an exam within 48 hours of the original order. Advanced MRI routinely provides same/next day appointments and fast reports no later than the next business day.

Finally, you want to find a facility that is easily accessible. If you need special assistance, or are in severe pain, you want to find a location that has nearby parking and does not require you to climb stairs or walk any distance. Advanced MRI is not in either hospital, it is conveniently located in the Medical Corridor on North 27th Street (11th Ave N). We offer curbside assistance and reserved patient parking right next to our front door. Depending on your injury, this can make a big difference.
